About RentLedger
RentLedger was created to solve a persistent frustration in residential real estate: landlords shouldn't need to pay recurring monthly subscriptions or hand over their financial data to a cloud service just to keep dependable records and file their taxes.
Our Core Design Principles
- Local-First by Default: All databases live in browser IndexedDB. Zero sign-up friction, zero email gates, zero tracking.
- Country-Localized, Not Merely Translated: A landlord in Sydney needs ATO Division 43 and bond lodgement tracking; a landlord in London needs Section 24 basic rate credit and Renters' Rights Act compliance. We build dedicated rule engines for each jurisdiction.
- Formula-Rich Spreadsheets: Exported Excel files feature real formulas (`=SUM(...)`), ensuring transparency for accountants and CPAs.
Our Verification Methodology
Every statutory rule, notice timeline, deposit limit, and tax form line in RentLedger lives in a versioned Rule Pack. Our research team verifies values against primary government sources (IRS, HMRC, CRA, ATO, Tenancy Services NZ) and records:
- The statutory source citation and direct link to official legislation or tax guides.
- The effective date and expiration/transition date.
- A
lastVerifiedISO date tag.
If a specific municipal or state rule has not been verified with 100% confidence, we flag it as verified: false, prompting the user to check with their local housing authority rather than guessing.
